Ruby Red (First book in the Ruby Red Trilogy) by Kerstin Gier

Summary
"Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!
Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon--the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust."

I haven't always been a big fan of time traveling books but this one definitely changed my mind. Along with the plot of the book you get gorgeous imagery of the places and clothing that the main character (Gwyneth) sees as she travels back into time. I'm also liking the small amount of romance between Gwyneth and Gideon. Gideon is mysterious and a well written character and I'm hoping to see more of him in the second book. This book is a fun begging to a series. Already there are three very important questions that I am hoping will be answered in later books! To know what those questions are though you really must read the book. Also this is a very satisfying fantasy novel, although it is not a fairy tale it still has all the elements of a good book. The only issue that I have with this book is that it wasn't really written appropriate to the time period. When the book first started I seriously thought it was set in the mid 1900's because of the writing style until things like cellphones and jeans started showing up. I also wish that Gier would have written Gwenyth with the same amount of spunk and sass that Olivia has in Giers newest book Dream a Little Dream.

Review: 9 out of 10. I really enjoyed the imagery and adventure of this book, but again the writing just did not reflect the time period for me and was kinda confusing.

Content Review: 2(12-18). This book is pretty clean. There is a small amount of violence, the main character uses the D word 5 times and there are two instances of kissing.
